Denise Walent

I came to the very important work of teaching after living in Kuwait for 2 years. In Kuwait, I had the opportunity to teach a multi-age class of 3, 4, and 5 year olds. I fell in love with the children, the work and the families. At the time I was also working in the American Embassy as a Registered Nurse.  After coming home to Virginia I went back to school to get my teaching license.

I have been a classroom teacher for  Pre-school and Kindergarten in addition to being an interventionist for children in grades, K, through 3rd. I have also coordinated after school programs that offer additional services to our students as well as  developing and facilitating a program that matches needy students with caring mentors.
A love of children and a love of learning!  I want all children to believe in themselves and their ability to achieve and succeed...what ever that  might mean for them. While I have loved my nursing career, nothing had been as rewarding as teaching and working with children.

I my spare time I enjoy my grandchildren, walking, and gardening. I also volunteer for St. Luke's Haiti and for St. Benedict's Health Ministry.
