As a Colorado girl raised in Steamboat, I fell in love with mountain living and recreating. I began my work with kids as a teen which lead to teaching preschool at the University of Colorado Family Housing day care center during my time as a student at CU. I graduated with a Bachelor's in Sociology and spent a short time as a counselor in a residential treatment center for teenage girls. From there I migrated to education as a ski instructor/coach in Steamboat while spending my summers running a summer day camp program for 8-9 year olds.
The early years working with kids inspired me to pursue a teaching license and with that I taught 1st grade in Hotchkiss, Colorado for two years. I taught K-2 and 5-8 Language Arts at the American International School of Libreville in LIbreville, Gabon for three years before starting a family. When my youngest child started kindergarten, I earned a Master's in Educational Psychology through the Friends School Teacher Preparation Program and CU Denver. I taught 4th and 5th grade at Friends School in Boulder for 10 wonderful years. I then had a quick stint teaching 4th grade at the Thai Chinese International School in Bangkok, Thailand.
I am a proud mother of two amazing young adults ages 19 and 20, a girl and a boy respectively. They both attended and graduated from Boulder Valley Schools, K-12, in Louisville, Colorado. I enjoy spending time with my kids, hiking, camping/backpacking and skiing. I am a nerd for travel, wildflowers, anthropology, history, geography and critically acclaimed movies (movie snob).
